Fulltake Market Data Collection
Complete market transparency for your pricing and competitive strategy
With complete market transparency, you can uncover hidden margin potential and identify sales opportunities that remain hidden from your competitors. In a globalised e-commerce market, PREISmonitoring’s Fulltake market data collection is a crucial factor for success – equally so for e-commerce managers, category managers, purchasing managers and manufacturers. Those who have a complete overview of their market and competitive data gain a sustainable advantage.
What is the Fulltake market data collection?
The name describes the principle directly: Instead of individual spot checks, PREISmonitoring’s Fulltake market data collection systematically captures all products in an online shop – including all available information such as prices, availability, customer reviews, product descriptions, technical specifications, GTINs/EANs, item numbers and variants. The data collected comprises publicly accessible shop and marketplace data: usually your competitors’ shops, but your own shop can also be included on request for direct price comparison.
For more targeted analyses, PREISmonitoring also offers Category Fulltake – the collection of data from selected product categories.
Fulltake (FT)
- Covers the entire product range of an online shop
- Suitable exclusively for online shops
- Shows how your product range compares in terms of price to a competitor’s entire range
- Ideal for market entry, comprehensive competitive analysis and the evaluation of new target markets
Category Fulltake (CFT)
- Covers products within selected categories
- Also allows marketplaces (e.g. Amazon) to be included
- Highlights price discrepancies and missing variants within a category
- Ideal for price optimisation of individual product groups
Why traditional price monitoring is no longer sufficient
The German online retail sector continues to grow: according to the bevh study “Interactive Retail in Germany”, gross turnover from goods in the German e-commerce sector rose by 3.2 per cent to 83.1 billion euros in 2025 – for the first time since 2021, across all quarters of the year. In this highly competitive market, with hundreds of thousands of active online shops, it is no longer enough to simply keep an eye on one’s own bestsellers. Online marketplaces are developing particularly dynamically: With growth of 4.9 per cent to 46.2 billion euros, they now account for 56 per cent of total German online retail, according to the same study. In such a dynamic market, patchy price monitoring is like navigating blindfolded – crucial changes in the competitive landscape go unnoticed.
Whilst the range of products on offer is expanding rapidly and prices change daily, traditional methods are reaching their limits. Selective price comparisons provide only snapshots. Although many retailers monitor the prices of a few key products, they overlook the majority of their own product range and, above all, that of their competitors. As a result, they lack the information they need for a well-founded pricing and competitive strategy. Anyone who relies solely on gut feeling or past experience today risks missing out on trends and opportunities.
Fulltake market data collection compared with
traditional price monitoring
Traditional price monitoring
- Focus on bestsellers and selected products (partial range)
- Primarily price-based analysis (only prices are considered)
- Limited samples, snapshots
- Overview of the current competitive situation (status quo)
- Usually limited to own product categories or defined items
Fulltake approach (PREISmonitoring)
- Recording of a shop's complete range (100% coverage)
- Multidimensional analysis: price, availability, reviews, specifications, etc.
- Complete data collection (up to 500,000 items per shop per week, more on request)
- Additional identification of trends and market developments over time
- Option to analyse new market segments and the entire competitive environment
Typical questions answered by Fulltake
- For which products can you raise the price without losing sales? It may be that certain items are being sold below their true value in the market because competing products are more expensive and customers would accept a price adjustment.
- Where would a targeted price reduction be worthwhile to attract new customers or boost sales volume? There may be products with high price elasticity, where a slightly lower price leads to a disproportionately larger increase in sales (keyword: traffic generators).
- Which products have above-average growth potential? Identify items or categories with rapidly growing demand so that you can invest in them in good time (e.g. top up stock, step up marketing).
- Where are there gaps in the market that you can fill? A comprehensive market scan reveals whether competitors are failing to offer key products or variants.
Fulltake’s market data collection service provides not only figures, but also opportunities and clear recommendations for action regarding your pricing and product range strategy.
Fulltake Success stories
Analysis of Audible’s range in the audiobook market
In 2022, PREISmonitoring carried out a comprehensive analysis of Amazon’s Audible catalogue. Over 490,000 data records were examined. Numerous data fields were evaluated, including title, price, version (audio or text, where applicable), language, length of the audiobook, author, narrator, publisher, publication date and category.
The analysis revealed some remarkable findings:
- Over 11,500 new audiobooks were released within just 70 days. Of these, 1,600 were German-language titles – a clear indication of how dynamically the German-language audiobook market is growing.
- The detailed evaluation of categories and pricing structures highlighted market trends and niches. For example, it revealed which genres were experiencing particularly strong growth and which price ranges (e.g. short audiobooks versus long audiobooks) were most commonly represented.
With the help of the Fulltake analysis, the client was able to make informed decisions regarding product range planning and pricing: Which genres should be included in the catalogue? How do the prices of new releases differ from those of back-list titles?
Price optimisation for an agricultural machinery manufacturer
A major European manufacturer of agricultural machinery spare parts wanted to review and optimise its pricing strategy in an Eastern European market. To this end, PREISmonitoring carried out a comprehensive market data collection exercise covering 10,000 items in selected, access-restricted B2B online shops.
Over a period of several months, prices were regularly recorded and compared with the manufacturer’s own prices:
- For 3,450 items (i.e. 34.5 per cent of the range analysed), the analysis showed that a price increase was possible without risking a decline in sales. These products were positioned in the market in such a way that customers would have accepted a higher price (e.g. due to low competition or a unique product advantage).
- For 2,182 items (21.8 per cent), it became clear that sales volumes could be increased through targeted price reductions. In these cases, the company’s own prices were slightly too high compared with the competition, which had deterred potential customers. A moderate price reduction enabled new customers to be attracted and sales to be increased.
Putting these findings into practice led to a significant improvement in margins and, overall, to an optimisation of the company’s pricing strategy. The items with price increases suddenly delivered a higher contribution margin, whilst the items with price reductions boosted turnover through higher sales volumes – a double win.
The PREISmonitoring difference
PREISmonitoring offers the technological flexibility to tailor the solution precisely to your specific requirements.
Since 2005, we have supported projects spanning all retail sectors, from electronics and e-commerce to fashion and industrial supplies. If you have any questions, our expert support team is available to assist you in German and English.
PREISmonitoring’s in-house crawling software has been specifically designed to address the challenges of large-scale data collection in e-commerce. It can reliably crawl even complex store structures with thousands of items, different variants, and sophisticated navigation mechanisms. The software can also quickly adapt to changes on store pages, such as modified HTML structures, and is therefore resilient to updates.
The collected data is validated and checked for plausibility before it is provided to you. This helps to reduce the risk of errors occurring during data matching or due to incomplete input.
Does your competitor offer volume discounts? The software tracks such tiered pricing models and documents which price applies to which purchase quantity.
Whether it’s furniture with customisable materials, computers with configurable specifications or vehicles with different trim levels – the crawlers can handle such configurators and extract relevant price information for each variant.
In the wholesale sector in particular, prices are often only visible after logging in and may be specific to individual customers. PREISmonitoring can access such restricted areas – in consultation with you and in compliance with all regulatory requirements – to capture the data that is important to you.
PREISmonitoring supports multilingual websites and different currencies. This means that products can be entered just as easily in a French, Polish or English shop as in a German one – always within the relevant local context. Currency details are recorded and converted where necessary.
PREISmonitoring offers an API for direct integration into your existing systems. This allows you to retrieve data almost in real time and import it into your ERP, BI system or pricing tool, for example. This enables automated workflows – such as daily price updates or alerts triggered by specific events.
With PREISmonitoring MCP, you can also integrate the data directly into your AI models and assistants. Find out more

Frequently Asked Questions
Below, we answer some frequently asked questions (FAQs) about the full-take approach and the services offered by PREISmonitoring:
The Fulltake approach offers the greatest added value for companies with extensive product ranges, complex markets or strategic challenges such as market entry or product launches. In principle, the approach is suitable for all, but the ROI increases with the size and dynamism of the business. The greater the uncertainty and complexity, the more worthwhile a Fulltake becomes in order to provide clarity. For smaller companies with a very narrow focus, on the other hand, targeted price monitoring for a few dozen items may suffice, as the cost-benefit ratio must be weighed up in such cases. However, experience often shows that even medium-sized retailers gain surprising insights when they see their entire market environment quantified for the first time.
The optimal frequency depends heavily on the dynamics of your market and your specific objectives. In relatively stable markets, where prices rarely change and the product range remains largely unchanged, a half-yearly analysis may be sufficient to set the right strategic course. In most sectors, a quarterly Fulltake has proven to be a sensible frequency – supplemented by continuous monitoring of particularly critical products or categories, for example via category Fulltakes or traditional price monitoring at shorter intervals. In highly dynamic markets – for example, in consumer electronics or the fashion sector during sales periods – monthly or even weekly Fulltake analyses may also be appropriate. PREISmonitoring advises you on which frequency makes the most economic and practical sense.
PREISmonitoring offers great flexibility when it comes to data transfer. You can choose between file exports such as Excel, CSV or JSON, an API connection, or data preparation in tools such as Power BI. Many customers start with Excel or CSV reports to get a feel for the data, and then switch to the API connection once they go live. This way, the data flows directly into their own dashboard or ERP system.
We coordinate the specific implementation with your IT department. The integration effort is usually minimal: we provide the format you need. Interfaces to common shop or PIM systems are also possible. The principle is simple: the data should be available wherever you need it. We take care of the technical implementation behind the scenes.
Basic web scraping tools can extract data on an ad hoc basis, for example a specific price from a page. PREISmonitoring’s Fulltake approach, on the other hand, offers a comprehensive solution for data collection, processing and analysis. The technology was developed specifically to address the challenges of e-commerce. These include, amongst other things, frequently changing shop structures, variant products, a constant stream of new products, different display formats on desktop and mobile, as well as CAPTCHAs and other blocking mechanisms that must be reliably overcome.
Furthermore, Fulltake not only provides raw data but, on request, also offers interpreted insights and personalised support. At its core, Fulltake is a managed service: you tell us what you want to know, and PREISmonitoring takes care of gathering the information and presenting it in a clear and understandable way. Web scraping tools usually leave you to deal with the technical details on your own and generally do not come close to the depth of content and coverage that Fulltake offers.
PREISmonitoring places great emphasis on data quality. The crawling processes are set up so that data is retrieved fresh from the target sources at the desired time. Quality checks are carried out before each data delivery: plausibility checks (for example: are prices within the expected range? Are quantity details correct?), comparisons with historical data (unusual spikes are checked) and more.
Thanks to our many years of experience, we are familiar with typical pitfalls – such as distinguishing between similar-looking products or the correct handling of net and gross prices in the B2B sector – and have established appropriate solutions for these.
“PREISmonitoring’s ‘Fulltake’ approach lays the foundation for data-driven decisions that have a direct impact on margins, turnover and competitive position.”
